Cornelius Krygsman

Obituary of Cornelius Krygsman

Krygsman, Cornelius

Passed away at home in his wife’s arms in the early morning of May 13, 2019 in Toronto, ON; after a prolonged journey with Parkinson’s.

Born December 7, 1936 in Scheveningen, The Netherlands, Cornelius lived with his family through the Dutch Hongerwinter of 1945. He came to Michigan on a ministry scholarship in 1959, and taught at the University of Toronto 1965-1969. His daughter Joan was born in Toronto in 1968, while he created a career in the Ontario Libraries.

Every Sunday Cornelius played the pipe organ for churches across the province. In 2005, Cornelius married his beloved wife Jacqueline, and their first years together were full of music and travel, until Parkinson’s stole the music from his hands. Jacquie was then his gentle, tireless and endlessly patient caregiver through the final years of his illness.

Cornelius leaves behind his wife Jacqueline Maree, his sisters Emma, Gre and Joke, daughter Joan, granddaughter Fritha, Joan’s mother Anna and step-mother Nancy. Predeceased by his mother Johanna Krijgsman-deGraaf and father Floris Krijgsman, sister Flora, and brothers Dirk and Martin. Cornelius will be lovingly remembered by all his family and friends.

Special thank you to Donna, Edna, Precious, Natalie, Jason, Roghie, Fe, Ndubisi, Scherline; the team at Baycrest ICCT; the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care; the Home and Community Care Divisions TCLHIN and CLHIN; and North York Seniors Centre for all their care, compassion and integrity.
